Mikó Imre Legal Protection Service: Simion should not deny his involvement in the desecration of the Úz Valley cemetery and should apologize

The Mikó Imre Legal Protection Service has learned with shock and outrage that George Simion, president of the AUR, is attempting to downplay his active involvement in the cemetery occupation incident that took place at the military cemetery in the Úz Valley. During the incident, a violent crowd—of which Simion was also a member—forced open the cemetery gate, assaulted peaceful Hungarian individuals who were praying and defending the cemetery, and then played Romanian folk music, climbed onto the crosses, and waved flags to the rhythm of the music.

Our Service once again draws attention to the fact that, despite having successfully won all legal cases, and as a result the municipality of Dărmănești being compelled to remove the unlawfully erected crosses, the extremist, virulently anti-Hungarian and fascist organization that serves as the civil wing of the AUR, namely Calea Neamului, erected new crosses in the cemetery after the final court ruling, blatantly disregarding the law. As a result, these illegal crosses remain present in the cemetery despite the court having clearly declared them unlawful.

Anti-Hungarian Incitement in Bölön – Desecration of the Easter Holiday

On Easter 2026, the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ, an incident took place in Bölön that caused deep concern and indignation within the Hungarian community of Transylvania. On the first day of Easter, while the local community was celebrating in a spirit of devotion, members of the group known as Calea Neamului marched through the village streets, waving flags and shouting, accompanied by inflammatory, provocative, and intimidating statements. These actions not only violated the dignity of the holiday but also directly affected the sense of security of the local Hungarian community.

Unprecedented fine imposed on FK Csíkszereda – We request an explanation from the Romanian Football Federation

As is well known, in recent months FK Csíkszereda has been fined on several occasions by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) because Szekler and Hungarian flags were displayed in the stadium. Particular attention should be drawn to the most recent fine of 37,968.75 lei, which is the largest sanction of this kind in the club’s history and raises serious concerns within our community regarding legality and proportionality.

Students attacked in Cluj-Napoca for speaking Hungarian

The Mikó Imre Legal Protection Service learned of an incident that took place over the weekend in Cluj-Napoca, during which young people whose mother tongue is Hungarian were subjected to verbal intimidation on a city bus. The young people were speaking Hungarian among themselves when individuals on the bus, reportedly connected to supporters of the Universitatea Cluj football team, reacted in a hostile manner and verbally attacked them.

Based on the video recording available to us, the supporters addressed the young people in an aggressive tone and demanded that they stop speaking Hungarian. During the attack, statements were made such as “In Romania, speak Romanian,” “if you want to speak Hungarian, go to Budapest,” and “there is no place for the Hungarian language here.” It was also said that Hungarian is “the language of horses,” and that “you should speak the language of horses in Budapest, not here.”

In recent days, we have witnessed several worrying incidents that clearly indicate that anti-Hungarian manifestations continue to be present in Romania, both in public life and in everyday interactions. We wish to draw attention to these cases because they clearly show that anti-Hungarian acts are not merely isolated incidents, but regularly occurring and serious social problems that, in the long term, undermine trust and coexistence between communities.

RULE OF LAW FAILURE AND INSTITUTIONAL ARBITRARINESS – The case of the eviction of the Premonstratensian abbot of Oradea

In Romania, the justice system and administrative practice have reached a point that can no longer be explained as normal legal dispute or a technical procedure. The case of the eviction of the Premonstratensian abbot of Oradea openly signals the erosion of rule-of-law guarantees and demonstrates that the institutional autonomy of a historic church community can be sacrificed at any time along political and economic interests.

The essence of the current situation is simple and grave: the head of a functioning religious order is being removed from his own monastery on the basis of a final court decision, even before constitutional, international, or ecclesiastical legal questions can be meaningfully examined. The speed of the procedure, the formal handling of legal remedies, and the insistence on enforcement all point to political intent.
The presence of the Premonstratensian Order in Oradea is not an administrative detail and not a matter of property use. It represents centuries of legal continuity, public service, educational and pastoral work that has survived the succession of empires, state forms, and political systems. Yet in a modern European state, this now offers no protection.
