The overzealous Romanian activist, Dan Tanasă, called the police at an international conference organised by the Covasna County Council and the Council of Europe, stating that his promotional materials and brochures, meant to be handed out, were stolen.
The Governance Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe was holding its meeting at the invitation of the Covasna County Council between the 30th and 31st of May, 2018 in Bálványos, Covasna County. The governance committee meeting took place during the first day and on the next day there was an international conference on the ”Use of languages by local and regional authorities”, a conference that was open for the public.
Dan Tanasă, the president of an NGO called Civic Association for Dignity in Europe and MEP Ivan Cătălin were also present at the conference, and brought several promotional materials and brochures that were meant to be handed out to the participants. Well into the conference, Dan Tanasă called the police and filed a criminal complaint for theft, stating that their materials and brochures had been stolen by the organisers. This accusation is highly inaccurate and ill-willed, since it is obvious, as proven by the photographs put at the public’s disposal by the organisers, that numerous participants at the conference have taken the brochures and the books from the registration desks.
Erika BENKŐ, the leader of the Mikó Imre Minority Rights Legal Services Assistance pointed out that it is increasingly difficult to comprehend the actions of Dan Tanasă, who took it upon himself to fight against – what he considers to be – ”abuses” on the part of the Hungarian community. ”It is apparent that the criminal complaint is nothing but another incredibly hostile and vicious campaign against Hungarians ”, added BENKŐ.
