Kelemen Hunor, president of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), has drawn attention to yet another anti-Hungarian bill. According to him, the House of Representatives’ cultural committee recently had on its agenda a draft bill initiated by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), which, similar to previous proposals, would introduce a so-called “Day of Respect” for members of national minorities.

The Mikó Imre Legal Protection Service became aware of a shocking incident involving a Hungarian family in Cluj-Napoca. On February 2, 2025, the member of a Hungarian family dialled the emergency number 112 after her mother’s friend became ill. The 68-year-old man showed symptoms of a stroke, so an ambulance was called.
According to the person who initiated the emergency call (Sz.Cs.), the doctor instructed her in a rather irritated tone to stop using Hungarian when she was trying to calm the elderly man on his mother tongue. Later, the doctor also demanded Romanian-language communication when the daughter explained the situation to her hard-of-hearing mother in her native language.
Călin Georgescu threatens the RMDSZ
Călin Georgescu, former presidential candidate, launched an aggressive attack against the organization representing the interests and political rights of Hungarians in Romania, RMDSZ/UDMR/DAHR, employing typical far-right and legionary rhetoric.
Georgescu revived a popular narrative among Romanian extremist groups, when suggesting that the political representation of Hungarians should be banned. He also clearly referred to the Hungarian ethnicity of Romania’s current Minister of Finance, Tánczos Barna, when he criticized the “current system” for allowing someone with dual citizenship, specifically a Hungarian, to hold the position of Finance Minister. This is a clear incitement and threat against the Hungarian community, implying that a Hungarian person cannot serve as Finance Minister in Romania solely due to their ethnicity.

A Hungarian underage gymnast has become the victim of severe abuse at the training camp at Resita.
The Romanian Gymnast Federation is accused of covering up a very serious abuse case. According to information published by the Romanian Pro Sport portal, one of the members of the gymnastic team a 15-years old boy of Hungarian ethnicity, was subjected to inhumane humiliations. Two of his Romanian colleagues applied severe, violent treatment, while the others watched passively the horrifying events unfold.
The case raises concerns about ethnic abuse, as the victim was Hungarian underage individual, who was constantly insulted regarding his Hungarian ethnicity during the beating and humiliation by his Romanian peers.
The extremist organisation „Calea Neamului” harassed Hungarians in the main square of Sfântu Gheorghe
After failing to provoke the commemorators on the National Holiday of Hungarians, Mihai Tîrnoveanu, the leader of the extremist organization „Calea Neamului” (translated as the „Path of the Nation”, referring to the Romanian nation), together with some of his followers, returned to Sfântu Gheorghe. This time he intended to harass the citizens of Sfântu Gheorghe, who were doing their jobs, with huge loudspeakers and by spreading their extremist views.
Early in the afternoon on last Thursday, a pre-announced, yet for the locals an outrageous and provocative action took place in the centre of Sfântu Gheorghe, disturbing people by playing patriotic Romanian songs from loudspeakers and waving National Flags of Romania, while reminding locals that ”they live in Romania”. The authorities repeatedly called upon them to account for the noise, but without any results.
