The bilingual town sign of Gyergyószentmiklós/Gheorgheni -– the third biggest town in Hargita/Harghita County where 85 percent 18,000 inhabitants are Hungarian – was damaged in the dawn of Friday, January 24. The Hungarian language part of the sign was sprayed over. The same thing happened with the Gyilkos-tó/Lacul Roșu sign nearby, reported the Hargita County Police Department.

Another Hungarian town must remove Hungarian symbols in Szeklerland
Only a few weeks after the legally binding decision forcing a 97% Hungarian village’s mayor to remove the Hungarian “village hall” sign from the building of the local municipality, a similar decision was made by the Bucharest Tribunal in the case of a 90% Hungarian town in Szeklerland. According to the Tribunal’s decision, both the Szekler flag and the town flag must be removed from the flagpoles standing front of the Tusnádfürdő/Băile Tușnad Town Hall. The municipality is expected to appeal the first instance decision.

Mayor of Csíkszentdomokos/Sândominic, a Szekler village in Hargita/Harghita County with 97% Hungarian inhabitants, is obliged by a legally binding ruling to remove the Hungarian “village hall” inscription from the building of the local municipality. According to the mayor, they will comply, but would first like to see the justification of the verdict.
Manipulation: RMDSZ president Hunor Kelemen falsely accused of spreading war propaganda by a retired Romanian general
Retired general Mircea Chelaru filed a complaint against the president of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), accusing him of spreading war propaganda through comments made by the former following the incident in Valea Uzului/Úz-völgye on June 6th. The obvious goal of this was to publicly undermine Transylvanian Hungarians in the eyes of the international community, as well as the Romanian majority of the country, and also to distract attention from the actual problems, namely the 50 crosses illegally erected on the graves of the Hungarian soldiers, using public funds, despite the fact that Romanian authorities later confirmed that there are actually only 11 Romanian soldiers buried in the cemetery.

The situation regarding the illegal occupation of the war cemetery in Valea Uzului/Úz-völgye has arrived to a new chapter: the local government of Dărmănești/Dormánfalva started to retroactively acquire the permits necessary for the concrete crosses that they had already put up back in April. It is clear from this that in the moment of making these modifications in the cemetery the local government in question did not have the documents and permits required by law, but despite this, no charges have been brought against the local council or its leader.
