The Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) court last week annulled the penalty imposed on Gheorghe Funar, the former mayor of Kolozsvár, notorious for his extreme nationalist behavior and actions. Funar, also a member and former general secretary of the far-right Greater Romania Party, was fined for calling Hungarian “the language of horses” in a 2014 televised debate, reported the Hungarian News Agency MTI.

On the 13th of May, a large majority in the Romanian Parliament voted for the 4th of June, the day the Treaty of Trianon was signed in 1920, to become a national day in Romania. Democratic rules under threat in Romanian Parliament: suggestions to limit MPs’ rights to submit draft laws
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) is proposing to change the rules of procedure in the Romanian Parliament, in order to prevent such laws from being submitted, which – according to the said party – affect Romania as a nation-state. Through such a measure they would practically outlaw the regional development policies suggested by Hungarian representatives.
