We were outraged to learn that on Saturday evening the FC Argeș ultras tore down the Hungarian flag in Újtusnád and later posted footage of the act on their social media page. This incident gravely offends the dignity of the Hungarian community and is entirely unacceptable.

Based on the available evidence, the Mikó Imre Association for the Protection of Minority Rights will file a criminal complaint with the competent authorities, requesting an investigation into suspected vandalism, as well as incitement to hatred and hostility against a community.

We firmly stand by the principle that acts of hostility, hate-mongering, and provocation have no place in Transylvania or anywhere in Romania. We will continue to employ all legal means at our disposal to protect the rights and safety of the Hungarian community.

Erika Benkő, director of the Mikó Imre Association for the Protection of Minority Rights, stated:
“The flag-tearing incident in Újtusnád over the weekend highlights the continued need to strengthen mutual respect between communities. Damaging a national symbol is not merely an act of vandalism; it is a sign of disrespect toward an entire community and can further increase existing tensions. It is essential that such acts be investigated by the authorities and clearly condemned by society. Peaceful coexistence is built on respecting the identity and symbols of one another’s community; therefore, every such incident must be taken seriously and met with firm, forceful, and consistent action.”
